FACING THE FEAR OF FAILURE

Sunday Nov 23, 2025

Sunday Nov 23, 2025

In this raw episode of The Resilience Lounge, Dewan pulls no punches as she unpacks why the fear of failure hits so much harder when culture, family, race, and gender are all screaming “don’t mess this up.”
From Black and Brown men being told their only job is to provide and never fold, to women of every background carrying the weight of holding everyone else together while silently breaking, to immigrant kids (Mexican, African, Indian, and beyond) who feel anything less than doctor/lawyer/engineer is betrayal; we all inherited a blueprint of success that was never designed for our peace.
This episode is for you if:
You’re terrified to leave the job, relationship, or city because “what will people say?”
You feel like your failure would prove every stereotype right
You’re tired of performing success for people who wouldn’t cry at your funeral
You’re ready to stop letting fear of falling keep you from flying
Redefining success isn’t about lowering the bar. It’s about building your own damn ladder.
If you’ve ever felt like the version of winning you were sold is slowly killing you, this one’s for you.
Tap in. Let it hit. Then go fail forward.

Celebrate Small Wins

Monday Nov 17, 2025

Monday Nov 17, 2025

Celebrating wins, no matter how small, is one of the most powerful yet underrated habits for long-term motivation and mental health. Acknowledging your achievements releases dopamine, reinforces the neural pathways that link effort with reward, and prevents the common trap of only noticing what’s still missing—which quietly erodes confidence and leads to burnout. When you pause to recognize that you’ve hit a milestone, you remind yourself that progress is real, build self-trust (“I said I’d do it and I did”), and create positive emotional anchors that make future challenges feel less daunting. In a world that constantly pushes the next goal, intentionally celebrating what you’ve already accomplished is what keeps momentum sustainable and turns short-term wins into lifelong confidence.

Finding Mentors and Allies: Building Your Support Network at Work
Building a strong support network at work is essential for personal and professional growth. Finding mentors and allies can provide guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for development. Mentors offer wisdom, share experiences, and help you navigate challenges, while allies advocate for you, amplify your voice, and support your success in the workplace. Cultivating these relationships requires authenticity, mutual respect, and a willingness to learn from others. When you surround yourself with people who challenge and uplift you, you create a foundation of trust and empowerment that helps you thrive, advance, and maintain resilience throughout your career journey.

Navigating workplace politics means understanding the informal power dynamics, relationships, and unwritten rules that exist in every organization. It's not about manipulation—it's about building genuine relationships across departments, observing how decisions really get made, and communicating strategically with different stakeholders. Success comes from focusing on shared organizational goals rather than personal gain, picking your battles wisely, and adapting your approach to different people and situations. The key is maintaining your integrity while being socially intelligent: understanding who has influence, how information flows, and what motivates your colleagues. Mastering workplace politics allows you to get things done, advance your career, and protect your team's interests without compromising your values—because the alternative isn't avoiding politics, it's simply being ineffective at navigating them.

This critical exploration examines the profound impact of workplace trauma and the stark differences in how it manifests for Caucasian women and women of color. While toxic work environments can damage anyone's mental health and professional growth, women of color often face compounded trauma through the intersection of racism and sexism, experiencing microaggressions, cultural isolation, and systemic barriers that their white counterparts may not encounter. Caucasian women, while facing gender-based discrimination and harassment, typically benefit from racial privilege that can provide some buffer against the most severe forms of workplace toxicity. This discussion illuminates how gaslighting, exclusion, and hostile work cultures affect different groups uniquely, acknowledging that women of color frequently navigate additional layers of invalidation when reporting concerns, face harsher consequences for speaking up, and carry the burden of representing their entire race while fighting for basic respect. By understanding these divergent experiences, we can better recognize the signs of workplace trauma across all identities, validate each woman's truth, and create pathways toward collective healing that honor both shared struggles and distinct realities in the journey toward truly equitable and psychologically safe workplaces.

SELF-CARE BEYOND THE SURFACE

Wednesday Oct 22, 2025

Wednesday Oct 22, 2025

Self-care isn't selfish—it's the non-negotiable foundation for your physical, emotional, and mental health. Think of it like the oxygen mask principle on an airplane: you must secure your own mask before helping others because without proper care, you cannot show up fully for your work, relationships, or responsibilities. Your body needs adequate sleep, nutrition, movement, and rest to prevent burnout, illness, and decreased immunity—this isn't indulgence, it's preventive medicine. Emotionally, you need time and space to process feelings, set boundaries, and engage in joy-bringing activities, or you'll face resentment, anxiety, and exhaustion. Mentally, your mind requires breaks and protection from constant stress through rest, hobbies, or therapy to maintain clarity and resilience against anxiety, depression, and cognitive fatigue. When you treat self-care as optional, you pay with decreased productivity, strained relationships, physical illness, and diminished quality of life—what feels like "pushing through" today becomes tomorrow's breakdown. Schedule self-care like a doctor's appointment and protect that time fiercely, because saying yes to self-care means you're strong enough to sustain your commitments long-term, not weak for needing breaks. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and you deserve to be well—not someday, but today.

In this raw, story-driven monologue for The Resilience Lounge, Dewan pulls back the curtain on what it costs to live for approval. She shares how performing in the NFL world—code-switching, keeping the peace, looking perfect—slowly erased her voice until therapy three times a week, a shattering betrayal, profound grief, and even a K-9 raid forced a reckoning. This is not a scandal story—it’s a freedom story. Dewan chooses authenticity over appearance, peace over performance, and purpose over a lifestyle that wasn’t hers. If you’re shrinking to stay, this is your sign: you have permission to leave. Dedicated to Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Parenting today often feels like juggling on a tightrope — balancing work, technology, responsibilities, and constant demands. In a world that moves so quickly, it’s easy to slip into autopilot, but children thrive most when parents are fully present. Being present doesn’t always mean carving out hours of uninterrupted time — it’s about creating small, meaningful moments of connection: listening with full attention, putting away distractions, and showing children that they matter in that exact moment. In a busy world, presence becomes the gift that anchors kids in love, security, and resilience.

Balancing Love and Ambition

Monday Sep 29, 2025

Monday Sep 29, 2025

Balancing love and ambition is the practice of nurturing meaningful relationships while also pursuing personal and professional goals. It means honoring commitments to loved ones without sacrificing one’s dreams, and striving for success without neglecting emotional connection, intimacy, or care. At its core, it’s about creating harmony—recognizing that both love and ambition are essential parts of a fulfilling life, and learning to prioritize, communicate, and set boundaries so that neither is diminished, but instead they strengthen and support each other.

A dynamic, often unpredictable routine filled with balancing multiple roles and responsibilities. It typically involves managing the needs of children, household tasks, and professional or personal obligations, all within the same limited hours of the day. For a busy mom, the day may begin early with preparing meals, organizing school or childcare logistics, and coordinating family schedules. Throughout the day, she juggles work commitments, appointments, and errands, while also providing emotional and practical support to her family. Evenings often involve homework help, dinner preparation, quality time with loved ones, and preparing for the next day.
In essence, it is a continuous cycle of multitasking, problem-solving, and caregiving—requiring resilience, adaptability, and time-management skills, while often leaving little room for rest or personal time.
